How do you wash a weighted blanket?
Washing a weighted blanket requires a little extra care due to its heavy filling and size. Here are some steps to follow when washing a weighted blanket:
1. Read the washing instructions
Start by reading the manufacturer's washing instructions on the label of your weighted blanket. Follow these instructions carefully as different weighted blankets may have different recommendations depending on material and filling.
2. Use a large washing machine
Because weighted blankets are large and heavy, it is best to wash them in a larger washing machine to allow enough room for them to move freely during the wash cycle.
3. Use a gentle washing program
Choose a gentle wash program with low spin to avoid uneven distribution of the filling or damage to the seams.
4. Use a mild detergent
Use a mild detergent without bleach to protect the duvet's material and filling. Avoid using fabric softener.
5. Wash with similar items
If possible, wash the weighted blanket separately or together with similar large items to avoid it bumping into smaller garments or being damaged.
6. Dry gently
After washing, dry the weighted blanket on low heat in the dryer or air dry it on a flat surface. Make sure the filling is evenly distributed during drying.
7. Check the condition of the quilt
After washing, check the condition of the quilt carefully to ensure that the seams and filling are intact. Repair any damage or seams that need fixing before using the quilt again.
Washing a weighted comforter can be a bit more laborious than washing regular comforters due to its size and weight, but by following these steps carefully, you can keep your weighted comforter clean and fresh for the best user experience and durability.
What weight should you have on your weighted blanket?
It can be tricky to know what weight you should have on your weighted blanket. We have therefore made a calculation that you can use to find out how many kilos are right for you!
1. Calculate your body weight in kg
Find out your body weight in kilograms (kg).
2. Multiply by 0.10-0.12
Multiply your body weight by 0.10 (10%) to get the minimum recommended weight for your weight blanket. For a heavier weight, you can multiply by 0.12 (12%).
Example:
If your body weight is 68 kg:
Minimum weight: 68 kg x 0.10 = 6.8 kg
Higher weight: 68 kg x 0.12 = 8.16 kg (round to nearest available weight)
3. Choose the closest weight
Based on the calculation above, choose the weighted blanket that is closest to the recommended weight. If you are between two weights, it may be best to choose the lighter option for a gentler experience.
4. Try out the weight
After purchasing your weighted blanket, test it to see if the weight feels comfortable and provides the desired pressure. The blanket should feel heavy enough to provide deep pressure without being overwhelming or uncomfortable.

Can children use weighted blankets?
Yes, children can use weighted blankets under certain conditions and with proper supervision. Here are some important considerations when using weighted blankets for children:
Age recommendations
Weighted blankets are usually recommended for children who are at least 2 years of age or older. It is important to wait until the child is old enough to understand how to use the blanket safely and can communicate any discomfort or problems.
Weight
For children, the same principle applies as for adults when it comes to choosing the right weight for the weight blanket. The recommendation is that the weighted blanket should be around 10% of the child's body weight, but this can vary depending on the child's preferences and comfort level.
Supervision and security
It is important that children use weighted blankets under supervision to ensure that the blanket is used safely. Make sure the child can remove the covers on their own if they feel uncomfortable or want to get out of bed.
Consult a doctor
Before allowing your child to use a weighted blanket, it is always wise to consult a pediatrician or other medical expert to ensure that it is appropriate for the child's health and well-being.
Using a weighted blanket can be beneficial for some children, especially those with sleep difficulties, anxiety or sensory challenges. But be sure to consider the child's individual needs and any medical conditions before using a weighted blanket for them.
